überfast sketches, before go to sleep o3o

He is a smart guy, and i like his attitude about “creating stars” vs “being a musician” - that he’s against such contests because most young people who enter them become famous not through their own power and work, gradually. Instead, lots of fame lands on their heads suddenly through the show, and it leaves them unprepared for life being famous. They go on tour for a few months and then burn out and disappear. He himself didn’t even want to be in this show, though it isn’t a talent search but a song selector (his manager bugged him enough that he went anyway), and he refuses to give interviews unless they’re about his music. He considers his personal life none of anyone else’s business.

I found it funny how on so many foreign sites people were shocked cause Huns chose this song, and got butthurt cause he will sing this song in his native language (+ the last refrain in Swedish)
I always found it annoying, how on eurovision every song that isn’t Euro-dance is an over-dramatized ballad about love, and desperate. So I’m really happy if a country sends an alternative or rock band to the contest, like last year with the Slovakian band. They were awesome! And I’m really proud of Hungary, that in the last two years they sent very high class songs (to me) which were totally out of the norm for Vision’s music line.

And I’m even happier for Alex when he said that he will sing the song in Hungarian. Vision would be a good place to show something about culture and differences, that a nation thinks they are proud to be what they are. And language is part of that. Yes it would be hard, cause it needs translating and to explain what’s happening in the lyrics. But to me it would be awesome, and better express the slogan of Vision: “We are one” - ‘you are part of my “Europe-family,” and I want you to know everything about me, and understand me, and this brings us closer.’

So I translated the lyrics word-by-word, and will also try explaining what the expressions mean to Hungarians.
This song is a quiescent-love song about somebody, who will always be on your side, no matter what you are, or what the future brings.

The Song

Then I try explain what’s happening in the lyrics:

A kedvesem az egy olyan lány, akit
My sweetheart is the kind of girl, who
farkasok neveltek és
was raised by wolves and
táncolt egy délibábbal,
danced with a mirage
majd elillant csendesen
then slipped away quetly
az én kedvesem.
my Sweetheart.
Ő az én kedvesem.
She is my sweetheart.

“farkasok neveltek fel” - Raised by wolves means somebody grew up in a very rough place, who faced horrible things and people.

“táncolt egy délibábbal” - Danced with a mirage. Well ‘délibáb’ doesn’t really mean mirage generally. ‘délibáb’ is a special mirage: when the air is hot and then things started reflecting on the ground, the fata ‘morgana’. In the folk tales the fata morgana was the world of illusion-magic where the land of faires started. If somebody saw a fata morgana, they found that a good luck sign for land, and veggies growing.

“ellilant csendesen” - this lyric uses literature/high-hungarian words what have so many extra soft touches that are hard or impossible to translate to english - “ellilant” mean slipped away/dissapeard, but huns only use this word when that’s happening softly. It’s generally used for “air” based, un-catcheble things - like smoke, fragrance, a moment - When using on humans it’s make them dreamy existence character. Like a lover visit, in midnight, and you cannot decide it was a dream or real. “csendesen” in this context mean tranquilly; peaceful quiet.

Az én kedvesem egy olyan lány, akit
My sweetheart is the kind of girl who
átölel hét kontinens,
embraces seven continents
csobban szép tengerekben
Splashes in beautiful seas
s táncot lejt fent felhők közt
and dance above, between clouds
a kedvesem.
my sweetheart
Ő az én kedvesem.
She is my sweetheart

The seven continent -  if we say America is two continents - south and north - then it’s right to say seven continent, but seven is a mythical number in Hungarian folktales; a person who hug/embrace/go across ‘seven’ continents is a human who saw so many things from the world and is very smart and wise - in the folktales

Ref:
Mert nekem nincs most más,
Because now i have nothing else
csak a kedvesem, az én kedvesem.
only my sweetheart, my sweetheart,
Ő bárhol jár,
anywhere she goes
az úgy jó nekem, az úgy jó nekem.
that is good to me, that is good to me,
Mert mindig rám talál
Because she always finds me,
az én kedvesem, az én kedvesem.
that is my sweetheart my sweetheart
Úgy dúdolnám:
I would like to hum:
ez így jó nekem, ez így jó nekem
This is good to me, this is good to me
ez a dal.
this song.

I guess everything is translatable and understandable  - the love that will be always there when needed, and no matter what you/we are it will be on your side. When you’re lost it will find you. But the lyrics still use high-hungarian (poetic language), so it sounds less cheesy, like my explaining <3<

Az én kedvesem egy olyan lány, akit
My sweetheart is the kind of girl who
hóbortos álmok tépnek,
ts torn by eccentric dreams,
kócos haját reggelente szelek fonják,
in the mornings her messy hair is plaited by winds,
ettől más a kedvesem.
this why my sweetheart is different.
Ő az én kedvesem.
she is my Sweetheart

Az én kedvesem a végtelennel
My sweetheart messes with
ujjat húz és sosem retteg,
infinity and is never afraid,
rozmaringból készít hintót,
creates a chariot from rosemary,
tücskök húzzák.
pulled by crickets.
Így nyugtat meg csendesen.
his is how she soothes me peacefully.
Ő az én kedvesem.
she is my sweetheart.

álom-dream, that part is a person who has dreams that are hard to give up.

in the mornings her messy hair is plaited by winds - folk motives again; in old times, and tales, the most beautiful lady always wore a braid, and men found it very attractive, or loved cause their mom plaited her hair every morning, and gives it kind, nice memories.

The wind is kind of a wild element who serves nothing so when the wind serves/helps anybody, that’s a sign that they are special, unique characters, humans. :)  that’s what makes them be different

végtelenel ujjat húz - mess with the infinity, well literally it means “pulling fingers with infinity” it’s an old game that young boys played: two boys sat at a table in front of each other, then grab the other one’s middle right finger with his own hooked finger, and won if he could pull the other to his side. The game faded from use, but the expression for messing with somebody stayed alive. So “Pulls fingers with infinity” means that she’s willing to stand up and fight no matter what problems come his way, even if the choices of what problem it is go to infinity - somebody who is even messing with infinity, and has no fear is a strong one, and if they do it for another person then it’s a very strong love.

rozmaringból készít hintót, tücskök húzzák - create a chariot  from rosemary, pulling by crickets; well this is an interesting part. rosemary in Hungary is a symbol for kind and pure love, so rosemary-chariot is something that brings you to the right place while covered with love. Cricket is the summer and music. and that things make people calm

Ps: but rosemary at the same time was a symbol of death - when somebody died, where the corpse laid while the family/friends visited, the room was covered hardcore with rosemary, to hide the smell of the corpse. and chariot is something that bring you to places, crickets live underground 8Đ *free interpretation is rulz*

Ps.2:

mean of “Kedvesem”

I translated it as sweetheart, cause huns using “kedvesem” in the same way as English uses “sweetheart”. But literally kedvesem means “my kind /nice one”. When Hungarians think of somebody or something they love in calm, nice way, they say “it’s kind to my heart/soul” (Hungarians think where the soul lives is the heart). So when somebody uses this word of the loved one, it means “you are kind, and nice, and be mine”

End———

Maybe you think it’s lame, and the lyric not have this so much additional information. And none of huns thinking to them when hear. Yes so many hungarian cannot explain what was catchy in the song, but hungarians have that big + how they grow up in that culture, if they had enough luck meet with great grand parents, who told many folktales, saw how ladies in mornings plaited their hairs. yes they not understood with mind, but they understood with heart. So i guess this was the most bigg reason from reasons why this song won. (+ easy sing, + catchy melody + i guess people getting tired of  “big-voice-singer-clones-and-shitty-nonesense-love-musics)
